Affordable Kentucky Bluegrass Blend
This is by far the most widely used grass. Our sod company’s 4-way blend has a beautiful dark green color, soft padding-like texture, and has aggressive growth habits. This grass has been utilized for many types of locations including Coors Field, Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Folsom Field, Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, golf courses, parks, and thousands of private residences.
This cool season grass will stay green 8-9 months out of the year and possesses excellent winter hardiness. During summer months, it thrives in sunny areas while maintaining the aggressiveness to handle the wear and tear provided by children and dogs.
GTF Kentucky Bluegrass has been successfully grown by our sod company in a wide range of soil types and conditions. It is not recommended in high salt conditions or in areas that lack proper drainage. Visit our website for proper soil preparation instructions.
In the hottest months, Kentucky Bluegrass requires only approximately 1 1/4 inches of water per week, which is much less than the amounts given by the average homeowner.
A well balanced fertilizer applied at about 4 pounds of nitrogen per 1000 square feet per year will provide adequate fertility levels. This should be applied in four to five separate applications on Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, and Halloween (optional). Reach out to our sod company for proper fertilization instructions.
During the spring and fall, Kentucky Bluegrass may be mowed as low as 1 1/2 inches. Adjust mowing frequency to remove no more than 1/3 of the grass blade at a time. During the summer months, raise the mowing height to at least 2 inches. For best results, make certain the mower blade is sharp each time you mow to avoid damage to the blades of turf.
One little known fact about Kentucky Bluegrass is that it is a Xeric© grass and that it is long-term drought tolerant. The newer varieties used in our GTF blend are more disease resistant, fungus resistant, and insect resistant than other blends of Kentucky Bluegrass.
